As a Leave No Trace Master Educator, he is a nationally recognized outdoor skills and ethics instructor with nearly twenty years of practice and teaching experience in this area. He has also served as a Camp Director for the Boy Scouts of America and is a prolific peak bagger and backpacker.
In addition to the outdoors, Matt is also a professional musician, holding a Ph.D. in music composition. During the school year, he teaches undergraduate music theory at the University of Utah and Humanities at Utah Valley University. His music draws inspiration from nature and geography and has been performed and published throughout the United States.
Additionally, he is an award-winning landscape photographer with features in Utah Life Magazine, Outdoor Idaho, and numerous outdoor-oriented websites and publications.
